Mitchell Jamieson (1915-1976) early work includes the 1939 mural Mail Coach at Laurel , and the 1942 WPA mural in the Department of the Interior, Marion Anderson at the Lincoln Memorial. In 1941 he carried out The Roundhouse mural at Willard. At the outbreak of War he worked in North Africa and then assigned to the D-Day landings as one of the Official Artists. He went ashore at an early stage with one of the demolition units.

Later he was responsible for a series on the Vietnam war as a volunteer civilian artist with the US Army. He was also a part of the NASA Art Program from 1963 and illustrated books with woodcuts from the series of American Rivers.
