Gerrish provides a clarity rare in anatomy books where much extraneous material often intervenes (gestures, rhinoceri, vegetation). His work is the equivalent of those Car Manuals where it is important to identify exactly where the carburator is situated. The lettering is fastidious in its clarity, often reversed out for legibility. Trajectories of dots indicate fleeting flesh and he sparingly uses the standard conventions of diagrammatic arrows. Scattered throughout the drawings are severe pins that tug the works further into the mechanical rather like trompe l'oeil nails in a Cubist college.

Thanks to Catherine McIntyre for introducing me to these (and her) wonderfuul images.
