This database is designed to
explore the visual conventions of the depiction of
Scientists. It starts in 1850 and will be as
contemporary as it can be.

Visual examples will be shown in
thumb nail form, and where possible, there will be
an enlarged image of the text that accompanies it -
whether the advertising copy or explanatory
caption. The date of the image and the context will
be found on the enlarged JPEG.

For the moment, I will post the
images and present the Information attached to the
image. When sufficient images and verbatim texts
are in place, I hope to establish a critical
overview.

Copyright has been sought wherever possible but
many of the images come from an old scrapbook, and
from obscure periodicals which I knew would achieve
fame some day.
