LUCILLE CORCOS (1909-1973) trained at the Art Students' League and began professionally as a children's book illustrator. She broke through to a wider appreciation with covers for Vanity Fair, and then worked extensively for the smart magazines - for example CHARM magazine for Cipe Pineles. FORTUNE however, I think it can be claimed, used her brain rather than her style.I am very fond of my copy of DEAD SOULS illustrated by Corcos in two volumes.

The Edgar Levy and Lucille Corcos papers (1928-1975) are held at the Smithsonian.Viguiers, Dalphin and Miller ILLUSTRATORS OF CHILDREN’S BOOKS,  1946-1956 The Horn Book, Boston, 1958

Corcos, “While a student at the Art Students league I met the artist Edgar Levy. We were married in 1928. We have two sons, David and Joel. I began painting professionally in 1929, working in a studio in my home in Rockland County, New York, where I am engaged in both a Fine Art and a Commercial career. Our summers are spent on Fire Island."
