I have included this selection from my own collection to show the perfect graphic world created by the artist, given what may at first sight seem unpromising material. The landscape and its human settlements have a unique presence, and always with a colour palette that is rich but controlled. Of particular charm are the endpapers, and graphic games used to interleave the strip cartoons. The Noddy Books (e.g. bottom row) measure 14 x 19cms. The Big Noddy books are 20 x 25cms for each page. Most of the books are undated unless it be by the owner. But dates don't matter. It is a timeless world. When the illustrator changed, the coherence, and in particular, the standards of drawing, changed with him.

Dedicated to Dick Briel. It's how we met on line.
