"Die Seiltänzerin und ihr Clown (The Tightrope Walker and her Clown), 1949, 100 woodcuts, edition of 525, Walter Kaesbach Gewidmet. Everything in the book is cut in wood. No type is used. Measures 11.8" x 10.6" x 0.9" (30.0 cm x 26.9 cm x 2.3 cm). The woodcut images in the folder are separate prints I purchased apart from the book. All of these images are in the book, but are not photographed from the book. The book is bound fairly tightly and is not particularly easy to photograph. Dating to 1949, this is his first wordless narrative and his second woodcut book. Unlike the biblical books, this is an original and charming story with a very easily followed story line. If anything, it is a bit slow with perhaps not enough time/space between images. The work is very dynamic. My copy is one of a small number with a crayon drawing, see above." Michael T.Ricker |
