FRANK J. .JUPO
Born February 28th 1904 in Germany and there his childhood was spent and he attended school. FJ started out as a newspaper cartoonist in Germany. When Hitler came to power he left Germany to live in Prague. Then this city was occupied by German troops and after an adventurous flight, he found asylum in England as a political refugee. He worked, first in London, and later in Glasgow Scotland, as a political cartoonist and advertising artist until he discovered his love for children’s books. His first five children’s books – which he also wrote himself – were published by William Collins Sons in Glasgow, one of which The Wishing Shoe, was later published in the United States. Mr.Jupo came to the United States in 1946, and worked first as a comic strip artist for Western Printing. Later he began writing and illustrating stories and articles for Story Parade. He had his first book published in this country in 1953.
