1882-1962, James Milton Sessions worked as a commercial artist after an education at the Art Instotute of Chicago. He was also according to the catalogue issued by the Love Gallery, a wheelsman on a ship that plied the Great Lakes, and served in the US Navy in the First World War. He was thus associated with marine reportage subjects, and in particular for the Chicago Tribune. During the Second World War many of his images were used to sell products and services (ZWillys and Borg Warner for example. Towards the end of his life he destroyed much of his work. His industrial subjects are carefuully and traditionally composed, and more painterly than was the style favoured at the time. Bord Warner even make a direct reference to himin 1946 as an 'eminent aertist'. |
