Heather Child (1911-1997) was probably better known as a heraldic calligrapher but here takes on the Decorative Map volume in the How to do it series(see also Tom Eckersley on the Poster). 1956 seems the apogee of the period when decorative maps were valued, commissioned and applied widely in editorial and advertising work. There is a moving and just tribute to this selfless and devoted practitioner in The Independent.
