The set of six, linked by their treatment of river life, is probably drawn and engraved by George Smith (Smith of Chichester) 1713 - 1776. Perhaps it was by one of two brothers who also practised their craft at the time. The portrait of George and John Smith in the National Portrait Gallery shows them actually drawing in nature, not exactly a common boast in the 1770's. George Smith was a competent cellist and late blooming poet.
