Artists Statement

THE START. From an early age I remember myself drawing and creating. I always imagined myself as an artist, responding in particular to the landscape of the Carpathian Mountains. In my first education in college the teaching of art was so strong and so good it gave me incredible base for the rest of my artistic development. I so enjoy drawing painting and creating because I know I can do it.

DRIVING FORCES. The human form was always my main obsession and still is. I am fascinated with the idea that I can put my thoughts down not in the form of words but in the form of signs. And they are my language I am using for the communicating with the audience. Certain forces, known and unknown drive my visual imagination. Love is the most important of them, healing pain and intensifying that feeling of being alive. I study the beauty of both female and male bodies, an endless examination of action and reaction.

RESPONDING TO VISUAL STIMULI Throughout my life I have been drawn to deep colours, the projection of sunshine, the pursuit of customs and folk songs. Over my career I have kept in balance the urge to pattern making, and the specificity of the human body

FUTURE PROJECTS. I am now at that stage in my career where I am returning to returning to extended and ambitious projects that provide a convergence point for past skills and attitudes.

1. AN OUTSIDER INSIDE As a Ukrainian artist in the United Kingdom I believe I have a particular perception of the landscape and people of this country, and at time when the country of my birth and youth is at a moment of peril. I am compiling a personal archive of visual studies of the land in which I have brought up a family.

2. ARCHIVAL CONSOLIDATION. I am using a fresh beginning to gather my creative work over thirty years into a personal website that will inform collaborators and funding bodies of my intentions and my directions.

3. EROTICA. Drawing the human body I am particular interested in representation of gesture, pose and interaction. This I want to take further in the light of developing ideas of sequence, and movement, with aspects explored in animation with accompanying texts and sound of my devising .
