| Compiling a cross section of Whiskey/Whisky advertisements from the period after 1945, I am struck by how sleek and homoerotic are many of the images. When Men gather in a state of relaxation, their thoughts seem to turn to Whiskey, the great lubricant of conversation and Horseplay. The Hired Retainer who dispenses the stuff has a sharp jacket (what I have heard call a Bum Freezer),and pressed pants and spring forward to top you up. PM's mbeaming pair of grey haired retainer and perky young pal also move in coordinated spats and bow-ties. I direct you to the Brand Character of Johnnie Walker to found in the Exotic section to substantiate my observation. |
