There is a popular tradition in Western Art of depicting the behaviour
and foibles of human beings by giving the main characters in a composition
human bodies but also telling aspects of animals and birds. Celebrated
bodies of work by Goya and Thomas Landseer say attest to this.
Here is a series of prints commercially available at one shilling
plain and one shilling and six pence coloured. The lithographs are
signed by one "HNH" are dated 1829 and printed by K.Spencer
for the print dealer Engelmann.
