Page size 13 x 20cms. Robert Anning Bell 1863 - 1933 is unfailingly inventive, constantly inspired by Italian Renaissance sources, such as the Hypnerotomachia Poliphilii. You cant really say he developed much from the 19th to the 20th century, but his sense of composition, image and text, rubrication and, above all, balancing images of the page were sustained over the years in illustrating the classics. |
