Above are all the pages of Osswald's illustrated board book, Ball
der Tiere , published by Josef Scholz, Mainz undated, my copy
inscribed 1918, paper on board, and part of Scholz's Künstler-Bilderbuche
series. His illustrations are in the best tradition of Vienna Secessionstil
- rich colours, well drawn and elegant black outline and stylised vegetation.;
each board 22 x 31cms.
I show
some details to demonstrate Osswald's extraordinary control of outline,
colour and composition.
This site is being developed with the help of Richard Osswald of Stroudsburg,
Pennsylvania who is himself an artist and great nephew of Eugen Osswald.
