Allen Saalburg (not to be confused with his brother Leslie - see Alphabet of Illustrators here) was born in 1899. He worked extensively in magazine illustration and in advertising. He had a fascinating and healthy career too in Mural painting, heading WPA mural activity in New York in the 1930's- e.g. the Zoo and the Arsenal in Central Park, and in restaurants and hotels all over America.. As can be seen from the menu above, he was a great favourite at FORTUNE He died in July 1987. |
