These scenes are both close to where I live. On the left we see a vineyard in Ditchling with the highest point of the South Downs in the background.
This is the familiar fable of the Fox who couldn’t reach the grapes after much effort.
The point of time I’ve chosen for this one is when the fox calls out, “the grapes must be sour anyway” after he has become exhausted in an attempt to jump up for the grapes and failing to reach them.
The well known ‘Hare and Tortoise’ fable on the right shows the two competitors at the finishing tape, with the Tortoise just winning by a literal hare’s breadth; choosing the climactic moment.
The action takes place in a farm lane very near to our home.
Just a few words about drawing in black and white; or should I say drawing with black ink on white paper. You don’t always draw the white, though you could do if you used white ink or paint as well, which I rarely do.
The black is what is drawn and the white is what is left out. |
