Well, I hope I have done justice to the ‘Metamorphosis’ theme of of the Forum.
I’ve tried to share with you my ownapproach to illustration.
And I am not at all suggesting it is the rightapproach.
I have wanted to redraw or tweak almost every illustration I have done. There is always the chance that the next drawing might be better.
There is no right way of illustrating.
Each of us attune our own personalities to the texts we illustrate.
We all have different approaches to illustrating and thank goodness there is diversity – for variety in picture-making is the spice of life.
The way we draw or paint (the individual graphic style, if you like) is significant to the tastes of viewers - but I think it is essentially what is put into the picture - the content and mood of the illustration and the individual ideas within it –- that is the essence of interpretation.
The illustrator interprets the text and then, of course, it is the viewer or audience who interprets the illustration.
How the viewer interprets what we illustrators do, is another kind of metamorphosis.

Thank you for listening.
