You’ll notice here that I adopted a grid structure for the composition of the limericks.
The grid was based on the lines made by two overlapping squares, of the total rectangular space given to the illustration, and their respective diagonals. 
Most of the limerick drawings subscribed in some way to these compositional guidelines - using the lines as a geometric framework for the pictorial elements, with the emphasis on vertical and diagonal stresses. 
The intersection of these lines sometimes prompted me to cut off elements of the composition at these points.
